The next in-person gathering of visual artists will be at the Roslyn Conference Center in Richmond on Saturday, October 28, from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. We’ll spend the day doing art together, sharing good food and good conversation, and reflecting on the art we do.
We will focus on preparing for the season of Advent. Bring a project or materials in whatever medium you prefer. It could be a piece you’ve already begun or something brand new. If inspiration escapes you before we gather, fear not. We’ll have plenty of materials for collage and assemblage to work with.
The readings for the first Sunday of Advent are rich with imagery. I invite you to choose one of the following as a focus for your piece:
From the Collect for the day:
Put on the armor of light.
From the Old Testament reading:
We are the clay, and you are our potter;
we are all the work of your hand. (Isaiah 64:8)
From the Gospel reading:
Keep awake (Mark 13:37)
If none of these cry out to you, then choose any word or phrase from the readings for the First Sunday of Advent. You can find them at this link: https://www.lectionarypage.net/YearB_RCL/Advent/BAdv1_RCL.html
All artists, whatever their medium, their location or the faith practice, are invited.
I look forward to exploring our faith together through the creative expressions that the Spirit inspires - Bishop Goff.
