Trees at Roslyn
Roslyn overlooks the north bank of the James River at the beginning of the falls above Richmond. Landscaped in the 1920's as a riding park, hundreds of trees in scores of varieties grace the fields and paths above the river plain. Elegant planted elms, maples and lindens stand alongside natural growth sycamores and cedars. An ancient white oak and "pillars of the sky" yellow poplars serve as reminders of the great forest that once blanketed Virginia. Some trees are young, staked and tethered; others are older than the nation. With your help, the Trees at Roslyn program seeks to renew and preserve this valuable resource.
In the Trees at Roslyn program, trees are planted or preserved through the generosity of sponsors. Trees may be dedicated to celebrate the life or ministry of a loved one, or to honor a special event such as an ordination, birth, anniversary, or baptism.
A dedication ceremony can be arranged where the sponsor and those honored are acknowledged. Dedications are kept bound in our memorial tree book. Of course, the trees themselves will be here still when the eyesight of our grandchildren's grandchildren starts to fade.
Honoring a loved one...
Young, long-lived hardwood trees with trunks up to three inches in diameter can be sponsored for $100/inch. (As a gauge, a red maple tree with a trunk three inches in diameter is about 12-15 feet tall.) Donations to preserve specimen trees are greatly appreciated and duly remembered as well. You may also donate young trees for transplanting, or provide gifts of time or expertise.
To sponsor a tree or for more information about the latest needs of the tree program please contact the Roslyn Director.
